Elsie Mari

Nurse Practitioner | Central Coast Local Health District & Casual academic | The University of Sydney | Australia

In my daily practice, I have learned that the most important aspect of quality patient-centred healthcare is that patients/clients need to be heard.

I am a Nurse Practitioner specializing in chronic and complex care, including people living with life-limiting illnesses. To promote shared decision-making and patient-centred care, I include clients and their families while providing truly holistic care. My palliative care experience enables me to appreciate and adapt to disease trajectories as part of the continuum of health. I also assist clients and families with discussing advance care directives and completing related documents.
I believe the right care starts with understanding the needs and concerns of the person experiencing chronic or complex illness and their families. Therefore, I always strive to build a trusting, compassionate relationship with each of my clients. I take time to assess and provide information on the best approaches to managing their health condition, as well as helping them to make decisions about their clinical care.

I would like join the ICoP to connect, learn and teach others about the importance of patient centred care.
